The general term »Metallurgy« refers to the actual extraction and processing of metals as well as their qualities and characteristics. Mankind’s history is very closely connected with and bound to developments and advancements in Metallurgy–as typical metals can even be, very memorably, found in human history’s distinct periods’ nomenclature: from the Chalcolithic Era over the Bronze- to the Iron Age. Nowadays Metallurgy’s spectrum actually is even more diversified, alongside the production of typical metals of industrial manufacture such as steel, aluminium or copper, science deals with the fabrication of objects of everyday life–starting from forks to automobiles. Our daily contacts with Metallurgy start with simple things such as a daily shave, pushing lift buttons or our cell phones’ vibra call.
Metallurgy as a field of study consists of a Bachelorcurriculum of 7 semesters and a subsequent Mastercourse of 3 semesters and can, regarding Austria, be studied in Leoben exclusively. Due to the uniqueness of the education the alumni face excellent occupational prospects globally.
Through the mediation of up to date knowledge on a top level a high demand for metallurgists on the labour market exists, as well as already students have the chance, over the participation in research project work and/or specific summer jobs, to contribute to their academic expertis as well as finance their monetary expenditures.
